What’s Changing with Medicare in 2026?

Medicare undergoes shifts every calendar year, and the latest updates for 2026 directly impact your wallet and your coverage options.

What Changed?

The biggest modifications focus on out-of-pocket costs:

  • Part B Premiums: The standard monthly premium rose to $202.90 (up from $185.00).
  • Part B Deductible: The annual deductible is now $283 (up from $257).
  • The Part D Cap: You now have a hard $2,100 out-of-pocket limit on prescription drugs covered under Part D. Once you reach this, your plan pays 100% of your drug costs for the rest of the year.

Do I Need to Update My Plan?

Whether you need to adjust your coverage depends on a few deciding factors:

  • Your Prescriptions: With the new $2,100 cap and newly negotiated drug prices, a different standalone Part D plan might save you significantly more money than your current layout.
  • Plan Discontinuations: Major carriers frequently eliminate lower-performing Medicare Advantage plans annually. You must verify if your current carrier is dropping your specific plan.
